On this day, nearly 100 years ago, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks) debuted 1927. Today, Oswald can be found waltzing through the magic kingdom, but for several years, Oswald couldn't be found. To celebrate his birthday, we put together a quick timeline of Oswald's journey from out of ink and back again.
1927
Oswald debuts in the black & white animated short titled "Trolley Trouble" and appears in a handful of others to follow that year.
1928
Walt Disney loses the rights to Oswald to Charles Mintz - Disney's film distributor through Universal Studios
2006
as part of a sports contract transaction, The Walt Disney Company regains the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
2010
Oswald and Mickey appear side-by-side in the video game "Epic Mickey"
2013
"Get a Horse!" - the animated short released alongside Frozen in theaters - features the first animated appearance of Oswald in 75 years.
2015 - Present
In parades, on merchandise, and at meet-and-greets, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit can be found next to all of the other beloved Disney Characters who call the Magic Kingdom home

Oswald was the first Disney character to make an appearance on merchandise (specifically stencils, buttons, and chocolate-covered marshmallows)
It is believed that Mickey Mouse's creation is credited to the loss of Oswald in 1928, as Mickey debuted in November that same year.
